Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/17/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (10-20) welcomed Cairn University (19-11) to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field for a non-conference bout before the team has a five-day layoff due to the Easter holiday break. An offensive output in the first four innings from the Griffins allowed the team to take an early 4-1 lead, but the Highlanders answered back with five unanswered runs of their own to secure a 7-5 victory. Freshman pitcher Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) started his second game of his young career on the bump for the Red and Gold finishing with six hits, five earned runs, and two walks in the defeat (0-1). Junior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.), after being recognized by the Atlantic East Conference this past week for his play with a weekly honor roll mention, once again was a force on offense, securing two of the five runs-batted-in (RBI) going two-of-four on the day including a walk again Cairn.
Griffin Highlights:
- Both teams struck in the first inning, bringing the score to one apiece thanks to an RBI single to center field scoring senior outfielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) (1-1).
- Gwynedd Mercy's biggest offensive explosion came in the fourth inning when the team brought home three runs thanks to RBIs from Root, Decarlo, and senior outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) (4-1).
- The final run for the Griffins came in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore shortstop Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) hit a single to left field, ending the score for both teams with a 7-5 finish.
- Senior pitcher Ethan Ferraro (Gilbertsville, Pa.) pitched a fantastic final two innings for the Red and Gold, allowing only one hit and striking out two in his relief appearance.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Tuesday, April 22, when the team travels to Kean University for a 3:30 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
