Gwynedd Valley, Pa., - (4/16/2025) -  The Gwynedd Mercy University (4-12, 2-2 AEC) battled the Marywood University Pacers (9-6, 3-1 AEC) this afternoon, and though the Griffins were able to keep the score close they eventually fell to the Pacers 20-9.  Though Marywood was scored first (12:26 Q1), Gwynedd Mercy went on a hot-streak, with two goals from Gianna Papa (Sterling, N.J.) (10:01, 07:22) and a goal from Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) (09:09).  The Pacers chipped away at the Griffins and the score was tied 4-4 after the first quarter. 

The second quarter of play continued in the same fashion; Marywood started the quarter with two goals, however Gwynedd Mercy kept it close.  The Griffins shifted their momentum with a pair of goals from Elena Colliluori (Gilbertsville, Pa.) (10:18, 09:33) as well as a goal from Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) (08:18), though Marywood converted on a man-up goal 29 seconds later.  The Pacers never looked back, outscoring the Griffins 9-2 in the second half. 

Griffin Highlights: 

• Junior defender Ayana Lyons (Norristown, Pa.) nabbed a career-high six ground balls throughout today's contest. 

• Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) notched her 100th career point with 07:42 remaining left in the game off a feed from Rebecca Gordon. 

• The Pacers overpowered the Red and Gold in draw controls and ground balls, winning 66% of the former and 65% of the latter. 

• Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) had a career-high 12 saves.  

Gwynedd Mercy next travels to Marymount University on Wednesday, April 23 for their regular-season finale at 4:00 p.m.
