Red and Gold Looks For Series Victory Over Cyclones

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/14/2025) - After a weekend split, Gwynedd Mercy University (10-18, 1-8 AEC) welcomed Centenary University (N.J.) (14-15-1, 6-3 AEC) to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field to try and secure an Atlantic East Conference (AEC) series victory. The Red and Gold's offense struggled early, only recording one hit in the first six innings, but a two-run seventh inning from the Griffins brought life back to the team. Trailing 3-2 heading into the eighth, the Cyclones unfortunately would secure another run on a wild pitch (4-2) and would be the final run Centenary would need to secure a 4-3 victory. Senior pitcher Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) looked to give his team the 2-1 series victory as he started on the bump, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, two strikeouts, and walking one in the loss (0-2).

Griffin Highlights:

  • Desperate for some offense, Gwynedd Mercy had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and a walk from senior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) (3-1) and a run-batted-in (RBI) ground out to the second baseman from Root (3-2) helped Gwynedd Mercy trail by one going into the final two innings.
  • Freshman catcher Gabe Tomei (Manahawkin, N.J.) secured the final run (4-3) for the Red and Gold with an RBI single through the left side of the diamond.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15, when the team travels to Stockton University for a 3:30 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
