Griffins Begin Series With Cyclones On Rare Sunday Matinee Matchup

Hackettstown, N.J. - (4/13/2025) - Desperate for an Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory, Gwynedd Mercy University (10-17, 1-7 AEC) traveled to Centenary University (N.J.) (13-15-1, 5-3 AEC) to begin their three-game series against the Cyclones. Game one was one to forget as a nine-run second inning from Centenary helped the Cyclones to a 21-2 victory. Freshman pitcher Brayden Scott (Gilbert, Ariz.), who has been sensational his freshman season, had an outing to forget as he went 2.1 innings, allowing a career-high in earned runs with 13. Scott also allowed 11 hits and one walk while only striking out one. In game two, the Red and Gold shook off the rough first contest and came back with a thrilling 5-4 victory in game two. For the first time in his collegiate career, sophomore pitcher Michael Inglisa (Delran, N.J.) started on the bump for the Griffins and threw 8.2 innings. Inglisa allowed five hits, four earned runs, four walks, and finished with a new career-high five strikeouts in his outing.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Similar to game one, Gwynedd Mercy struck first in the top of the first with run-batted-in (RBI) singles from senior outfielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) and junior infielder A.J. Johnson (Lavallette, N.J.) (2-0).
  • Already earning his first career triple in game one, freshman infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) repeated himself in game two in the second inning with an RBI to center field, scoring senior catcher Justin Smith (Broomall, Pa.) (3-2). Senior outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) the next batter, had a productive at bat, grounding out to the second baseman, but allowed Ross to cross home plate and extend the Griffins' lead 4-2.
  • Senior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) capped off an impressive game two going four-of-five from the plate with an RBI single to centerfield and giving the team the eventual 5-4 victory.
  • Freshman pitcher Chase Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded his first save in his young career to help put away the Cyclones.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action Monday, April 14, when the team returns to Frank O. Genuardi Legends field to wrap up its three-game series with Centenary University (N.J.), with a first pitch scheduled at 3:00 p.m.
