Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/19/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (8-9) challenged #21 nationally ranked Gettysburg College (15-1) as the Red and Gold looked to make it three wins in a row in three straight days. With some clutch at-bats and 15 total hits for the Griffins, Gwynedd Mercy defeated the Bullets 6-4 and handed them their first loss this season. The pitching for the Red and Gold also threw the rock phenomenally including freshman pitcher Brayden Scott (Gilbert, Ariz.) and sophomore pitcher Michael Inglisa (Delran, N.J.). Scott started against Gettysburg's high-power offense and went six strong innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs while recording two strikeouts. Inglisa picked up his first collegiate career save recording nine outs (three innings) allowing only one hit and striking out one.
Griffin Highlights:
- In the first inning, the leadoff hitter senior outfielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) reached on an error, and sophomore infielder Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made Gettysburg pay. Horner recorded his second triple of the season and gave Gwynedd Mercy an early 1-0 lead. The next batter, senior outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) grounded out to the shortstop allowing Horner to cross the dish (2-0).
- Root continued to lead by example with a run-batted-in (RBI) single in the fourth scoring sophomore infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) (3-4) and a two-RBI single to centerfield bringing home freshman infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) (5-4).
- With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth and only leading the Bullets by one (5-4) a wild pitch and heads-up base running from Junker gave Gwynedd Mercy their final run of the game and the eventual 6-4 victory.
Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action Tuesday, March 25 as the team takes on another nationally ranked team, this time #8 ranked Salisbury University at Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field with a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
