Griffins and Gators Battle For The First Time In Program History

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/19/2025) - For the first time in program history, Gwynedd Mercy University (7-9) hosted Notre Dame of Maryland University (3-8). Playing just 24 hours prior, the Red and Gold did not show any signs of fatigue as the Griffins scored in every inning besides the fifth and sixth in the seven-inning affair. A monumental eight-run first inning helped pave the way for a 14-0 victory and the team's second win in a row. For the first time in his collegiate career, Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) started on the bump for Gwynedd Mercy and pitched a near-perfect four innings allowing only three hits, walking two, and striking out four in the victory (1-3).

Griffin Highlights:

  • An eight-run first inning from the Griffins was highlighted with runs-batted-in (RBI) from freshman catcher Gabe Tomei (Manahawkin, N.J.), senior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.), sophomore infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.), and freshman infielder Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.). Sophomore infielder Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) also brought in two RBIs for his second time up in the inning (7-0).
  • In the third inning, junior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) ripped a line drive down the left field line allowing the senior outfielder speedster Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) to score from first (11-0). Junior outfielder Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) also brought in a run with a sacrifice fly extending the lead to 12-0.
  • Horner continued his impressive day at the plate in the bottom of the fourth driving in another run with an RBI single through the middle of the diamond (13-0), while freshman catcher Peter Burnely (Sicklerville, N.J.) recorded his first collegiate career RBI with a sacrifice fly giving Gwynedd Mercy the final run of the contest (14-0).

Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action for a third straight day tomorrow Friday, March 21 as the team travels to the #21 ranked Gettysburg College for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
