Hamilton's Efforts Help Red and Gold Secure Victory Over Ravens

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/19/2025) - After a busy spring break trip down in Florida, Gwynedd Mercy University (6-9) returned to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field and welcomed Rosemont College (5-9) for a non-conference bout. A struggle for the Red and Gold's pitchers early throughout the contest led to a high-scoring affair, but freshman pitcher Chase Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa.) pitched a three-inning gem. Hamilton in three innings only allowed two hits and three walks but shut the Ravens' offense down in the crucial moments of the game. Gwynedd Mercy would secure a 10-5 victory after three runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Sophomore infielder Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) continued his tremendous offensive start to the season as he hit a two-runs-batted-in (RBI) single through the left side of the diamond and gave the Griffins an early 2-0 lead.
  • Rosemont answered back in the top of the second with two runs of their own, but senior outfielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, NJ.) quickly grabbed the lead back with an RBI single scoring sophomore infielder Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) (3-3).
  • In the bottom of the sixth, an RBI sacrifice fly from freshman Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) and a two-RBI single from Root extended Gwynedd Mercy's lead 6-5 heading into the final three innings of the contest.
  • In the seventh inning, an error and a balk brought home two more runs for the Red and Gold and an RBI sacrifice flyout from Haines extending the lead to a comfortable 9-5 lead.
  • The final run of the contest came from junior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) as he hit a single through the left side scoring junior outfielder Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.) (10-5).
  • Sophomore pitcher Patrick Talley (Collingswood, N.J.) earned his second victory of the season (2-1) pitching four innings allowing two earned runs while striking out two.

Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action tomorrow Thursday, March 20 as the team battles Notre Dame of Maryland University for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
