Winter Haven, Fl. - (3/15/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-9) bid farewell to Florida as the team wrapped up their spring break trip, but not before taking on Fredonia (3-0). Nine innings were not enough for the Blue Devils and the Griffins to decide a winner; however, it would be Fredonia scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth to secure a 7-6 victory. Both senior outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) and junior infielder Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) finished with multiple runs-batted-in (RBI), including the former going three-for-two on the day with three RBI's and the later recording two RBI's going two-of-five. Senior captain pitcher Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) started on the mound for the Red and Gold, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up 10 hits and five earned runs. Root also recorded three strikeouts while walking two in the no-decision.  

Griffin Highlights: 

• Junker's big day started in the fifth inning as he recorded a two RBI single, scoring both sophomore's Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and Drew Haines (Hammonton, N.J.) (3-2). The next batter, DeCarlo also recorded a single, driving in Root and knotting the score 3-3. Senior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) was handed the stick next and drove in Junker with another big RBI single, with the Griffins taking a 4-3 lead going into the sixth inning.  
• DeCarlo recorded his final RBI of the contest with a double in the seventh (5-5).  
• Down one going into the top of the ninth, Junker worked a productive at bat and hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score 6-6, giving the Griffins a chance in extra innings.  

Gwynedd Mercy University finished their spring trip 2-5 and returns to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Field on Wednesday, March 19 when Gwynedd Mercy host Rosemont College for a scheduled 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
