Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/12/2025) - The Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins took on the Bryn Athyn Lions in a gritty contest this afternoon.  The Griffins started with a strong attack with a draw control and goal from freshman Elena Colliluori (Gilbertsville, Pa.) (14:46).  Senior attacker Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.) reached her 100th point mark, feeding the ball to Cheyenne Avellino(Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) (12:03) and placing the Griffins up 3-1.  The Griffins and the Lions continued to battle back and forth, finishing the first quarter in the Griffins' favor 8-5.   

Sophomore Gianna Papa (Stratford, N.J.) converted on another feed from Cheyenne Avellino, starting the second quarter strong.  A Bryn Athyn goal from Kira Bradley (13:27) gave the Lion's the spark they needed, going 5-1 in the second quarter and entering halftime with the game all tied at 10. 

The Lions started the second half with a 4-0 run, with the Griffins then completing a 5-0 run themselves with quick transitions from their defensive to attacking zones.  Bryn Athyn was able to drive to goal with just 00:01 left of the third quarter, scoring and changing the momentum on the field.  Multiple Griffin fouls and a Bryn Athyn goalkeeping hot-streak resulted in the Griffins unable to make the fourth-quarter comeback. 

Griffin Highlights: 

• Cheyenne Avellino reached her 100th career ground ball pickup with 13:35 remaining in the third quarter. 

• The Griffins were you able to win the draw control battle, 21-16. Elena Colliluori snagged a season-high 10 draw controls. 

• Gwynedd Mercy achieved a season-high 10 assists in the loss, six of which were attributed to Hailey Bloom. 

The Griffins take to the road next, traveling to Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, March 15 for a 1:00 pm start.
