Scranton, Pa. - (2/5/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-15, 1-5 AEC) traveled to Marywood University (12-11, 3-5 AEC) in their second matchup of the season. Their previous matchup (Jan.8) was a close back-and-forth affair, but the Pacers walked away with a nine-point victory (63-54). The Red and Gold sought revenge against Marywood on their turf. Gwynedd Mercy mightily struggled out of the gate, and it was not until 5:17 into the first quarter that the Griffins made their first basket thanks to a three-pointer from sophomore guard Angelina Balcer (Philadelphia, Pa.) after an 11-0 run to open the contest. That would be Gwynedd Mercy's closest chance to evening the score with the Pacers as Marywood secured a 77-55 victory. Balcer coming off the bench secured a game-high 34 minutes on the floor with team-highs in points (21), rebounds (6), assists (5), and steals (4).
Griffin Highlights:
- Freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) was the only other member of the Red and Gold to secure double-digit points with 14. Bell coming off a strong week offensively last week struggled against Marywood shooting only 3-of-11 (27%) from the floor and 1-of-4 (25%) from beyond the arc.
- Gwynedd Mercy as a team shot 32% (19-59) from the floor, while Marywood shot 50% (30-60).
Gwynedd Mercy continues Atlantic East Conference (AEC) play on Saturday, February 8 when the team travels to Immaculata University for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
