Arlington, Va. - (2/26/2025) - In the 2023-2024 season, Gwynedd Mercy University (21-5, 9-3 AEC) traveled down to Marymount University (17-9, 9-3 AEC) in what was the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Championship Game. In the 2024-2025 season, these two teams faced off again, but the winner would go to the championship match this time. Unfortunately, the same results followed the Red and Gold, ending their historic 2024-2025 season after a 102-86 defeat to the Saints. Graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) in his final game with Gwynedd Mercy, left it all on the line, finishing with a game-high 26 points (10-of-15, 67%) with a rebound, three assists, and a game-high four steals.
Griffin Highlights:
- Coming into the contest, the Griffins tried to take advantage of the height difference between the two teams as sophomore forward Travon Mack (Coatesville, Pa.) made just his third start this season but made an impact immediately. Mack all seven of his points in the first half, including two three-pointers (6:00, 3:25) and finished with a game-high eight rebounds and a team-high one block.
- Senior guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Summers Jr. came out of the gate hot and looking to punch their championship round ticket, both combining for 13 of the first 17 points the Red and Gold scored. Stewart finished with 17 points and finished with three threes in the contest (3-of-8, 38%). Stewart also collected a rebound, two assists, and a team-high of four steals.
- Stewart after securing three three-pointers in the contest tied Dan DelConte '12 for most three-pointers in a single season with 74.
- Gwynedd Mercy only shot 9-of-21 from beyond the arc (43%) and finished with a dejected 13-of-25 (52%) from the charity stripe.
Gwynedd Mercy University the regular season with a 21-5 overall record and 9-3 in AEC play.
