Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/25/2025) - Two runs in the first inning (2-0), four in the second inning (6-0), and five in the seventh inning (14-1) was more than enough to send Rutgers-Camden (3-0) past Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) in today's 14-2 final (8 innings). The Griffins scored in the third inning on a double to left center from freshman second baseman
Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.) (6-1) and a seventh-inning single through the left side from sophomore third baseman
Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (14-2). Horner was the only Griffin with multiple hits (2-for-3); in addition to his seventh-inning run-batted-in (RBI) single, he also singled to left field in the fifth inning.
Griffin Highlights
- In the third, Horner reached on an error by the Rutgers-Camden shortstop. He scored unearned two batters later on Ross' double.
- Gwynedd Mercy University manufactured their second run in the seventh inning with three consecutive one-out singles as senior left fielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) singled to right field, senior first baseman Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) singled through the box, and Horner's single through the right side to bring home the second Red and God run.
- Senior center fielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) also recorded a hit (1-for-3) with his lead-off single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- In relief, junior Zachary Freas (Mickleton, N.J.) was the only Griffin to not give up a run to the Scarlet Raptors; he pitched the final 1.2 innings and held Rutgers-Camden to just two base runners (1H, 1BB).
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to Frank O. Genuardi Legends baseball on Friday, February 28, when they host Penn State Abington for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
