Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/19/2025) -  Gwynedd Mercy University (0-2) played a tightly contested home opener against Arcadia University (1-0) this afternoon.  After nine changes in possession, the Knights struck first with a goal at the 8:26 mark in the first quarter.  Arcadia scored twice more before Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) converted on a pass from Gianna Papa (Stratford, N.J.) during a man-up opportunity. 

Coming out of halftime, the Griffins capitalized on Arcadia's four cards (3 green, 1 yellow) with man-up goals from Alysia Collins (Royersford, Pa) (11:59) and Avellino (1:37). Gwynedd Mercy was unable to keep that momentum through the fourth quarter, with nine turnovers and only one goal to close out the game. 

Griffin Highlights: 

• It was a true team effort for the Griffins attack, with five players notching goals and four total assists.  

• Senior defender Maddie Jeter (Bensalem, Pa) and sophomore attacker Gianna Papa both contributed two caused turnovers and two ground balls to Gwynedd Mercy's efforts. 

• Victoria Sloan (Philadelphia, Pa) had another excellent performance in the net with 14 saves tallied in the loss. 

The Griffins next battle the Delaware Valley Aggies for an away contest on Friday, February 21 with a 4:00 p.m. start.
