Crumpton’s 17-Point Performance Sparks Griffins in Hard-Fought Home Battle

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (11/25/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University (1-5) opened with one of its best first quarters of the season and held multiple early leads, but Swarthmore University's (2-2) perimeter shooting proved too much to match as the Griffins fell 75–58 in Tuesday night's non-conference matchup at The Griffin Complex. Junior forward Azzy Crumpton (Conshohocken, Pa.) powered Gwynedd Mercy's offense all night, finishing with a career/team-high 17 points and seven rebounds on an efficient 7-of-13 (54%) from the field. She frequently broke free in the lane, logging six made baskets at the rim and supplying key second-chance scores. Crumpton also recorded an assist and, with her active hands-on defense, finished with a team-high two steals.

Griffin Highlights:

  • The Red and Gold opened the night with energy and confidence, outscoring the Garnet 17–16 in the first quarter behind Crumpton's inside presence and early three-pointers from junior guard Alyssa Cresto (Newark, Del.) and sophomore guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.). Crumpton attacked the rim relentlessly, scoring 11 points in the first half, while Bell pushed the ball in transition and directed the offense with poise.
  •  Cresto followed with 11 points on 3-of-8 (38%) from deep, and Bell put together one of the game's most complete performances with eight points, nine rebounds, and a season-high eight assists, nearly notching a triple-double.
  • Senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) was a force on the boards, collecting 13 rebounds—10 of them defensive—while adding four assists and four steals. Her play helped the Griffins control the interior, as the team posted a 52–37 rebounding advantage and racked up 19 second-chance points off 24 offensive boards.
  • Off the bench, sophomore guard Alexis Kanzinger (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) provided a spark in the fourth quarter, hitting two three-pointers—including a deep wing triple at the 6:01 mark that trimmed the deficit to single digits. Freshman guard Layla Verbit (Sellersville, Pa.) added three points and five rebounds, and sophomore forward Frannie Boyle (Newtown, Pa.) scored inside during a late second-quarter push.

Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action on Thursday, December 4, when the team welcomes The University of Valley Forge for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
