Red and Gold Travel To Arcadia For Annual Battle of 309 Contest

Glenside, Pa. - (11/12/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University (0-3), traveled to Arcadia University (2-0) for their annual Battle of 309 contest. Gwynedd Mercy opened Wednesday night's matchup with confidence, matching Arcadia shot for shot through the first quarter, but the Knights' second-half surge proved too much as the Griffins fell 65-45. The Griffins were fueled by a standout performance from sophomore forward Julianna DiFebbo (West Deptford, N.J.), who led the team with 12 points while adding 5 rebounds, a block, and a steal. DiFebbo consistently created offense in the lane, scoring in all four quarters and providing key buckets whenever the Griffins needed momentum.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Gwynedd Mercy held its own early, tying Arcadia three times in the first quarter and taking multiple leads in the second. A 6-0 Griffin run, capped by freshman guard Layla Verbit's (Sellersville, Pa.) layup and two baskets from junior forward Rachel Dunn (Lansdale, Pa.), pushed the red and gold ahead 22-17 with 3:46 remaining in the half. The Griffins attacked the paint relentlessly, scoring 26 points inside, and their bench contributed 23 points overall.
  • Sophomore guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) contributed seven points, including Gwynedd Mercy's lone three-pointer of the night, and added two assists, two steals, and a block in a strong two-way effort. Senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) anchored the interior with five rebounds, a block, and three points, while Verbit brought energy off the bench, tallying eight points, eight rebounds, and a team-high three steals.
  • Dunn delivered one of the game's grittiest performances, posting eight points and nine rebounds-six of them offensive-as she battled for second-chance opportunities throughout the night.
  • Despite the final score, the Griffins controlled long stretches of the first half and dominated the glass with 49 rebounds compared to the Knights' 43.

Gwynedd Mercy University is back at the Griffin Complex on Saturday, November 15, when the team takes on King's College (Pa.) with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
