O'Donnell Scores Late as Gwynedd Mercy Battles FDU-Florham

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/6/2025) – Despite a challenging matchup against a strong FDU-Florham (7-1-2) side, Gwynedd Mercy University (4-7) found bright moments in a 5-1 setback on Wednesday evening at the Athletic Complex.

Junior midfielder Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) provided the highlight for the Griffins, scoring in the 84th minute (83:35) (5-1) to get Gwynedd Mercy on the board. O'Donnell, one of the team's most consistent offensive threats, capitalized on late pressure in the attacking third to record his second goal of the season.

The Griffins generated several quality looks, led by O'Donnell's two shots on goal, while senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) and senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) each added attempts that kept the FDU defense honest. In goal, freshman goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) (0-4) and senior goalkeeper Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) combined for five saves, facing a relentless Devils offense that tallied 33 total shots.

Zimmerman stood tall early with three key stops in the opening half before Romano came on to make a pair of second half saves. Senior defenseman Matt Edwards (Bensalem, Pa.), junior defenseman Axel Mayren (Atlantic City, N.J.), and senior defenseman Colin Stocklin (Philadelphia, Pa.) anchored the defensive effort as Gwynedd Mercy battled through a physical contest that featured nine Griffin fouls and multiple yellow cards.

After falling behind early, the Griffins regrouped and showed resilience late, maintaining possession and creating chances in the closing minutes to break through FDU-Florham's back line. O'Donnell's strike provided momentum for a team continuing to develop chemistry and consistency as conference play approaches.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, October 8, as the team hosts Pratt Institute for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
