Reading, Pa, - (10/4/2025) - The Gwynedd Mercy (2-9) traveled to Albright College (2-7) for a late-morning thriller, requiring extra time but ultimately losing 2-3. The Griffins were focused right from the beginning. With a penalty corner awarded to Morgan Hoban (Cinnaminson, N.J.) just 3:53 in the first quarter, Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) took two shots before scoring for the Griffins [4:09 Q1]. The quarter continued in a back-and-forth manner, with the Lions tallying a goal at the 13:44 mark. Gwynedd Mercy and Albright were deadlocked through the rest of the first half.
At the beginning of the second half, the Lions shifted their momentum. They snagged a penalty corner [36:44] and, though shot wide, Albright's forwards were able to acquire another corner [36:53]. Junior goalkeeper Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made the save [37:00], however the Lions' Keliah Santiago was there to score off the rebound [37:01]. The Red and Gold were able to communicate well and held off any other shots in the remainder of the third quarter.
The Griffins wasted no time in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Sophomore forward Allyssa Seifert (Philadelphia, Pa) evened the score just 55 seconds into the fourth quarter off an assistant from Mackenzie Reed. Though both teams exchanged fouls and corners throughout the quarter neither were able to score again. The game went to overtime and Albright used speed and field awareness to score [60:02]. Though the Griffins lost, the team has many reasons to be excited for their upcoming conference play in one week.
