Scranton, Pa. - (10/11/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-7, 0-1) visited Atlantic East Conference (AEC) rival Marywood University (17-1, 1-0) for today's tri-match action. The Griffins and Pacers opened the event with a conference affair that saw the hosts take charge in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17) finish. The Red and Gold recovered from the loss with a 3-1 (

26-24, 25-15, 18-25, 25-17) non-conference victory over Rutgers-Newark (7-13). Career milestones were reached in both matches as seniors, middle hitter
Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) and setter
Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) respectively reached 1,000 digs and 100 total blocks. Junior outside hitter
Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) was the Griffins' top scorer in both matches; she scored 13 kills versus the Pacers and added a block to 15 kills against the Scarlet Raiders.
Griffin Highlights vs. Marywood University
- Gwynedd Mercy University hit .106 (25K-15E-94TA) in the match with their best effort coming in the opening set; .200 (10K-4E-30TA).
- Gaston supported Etter's 13-kill performance with two kills, 20 assists, and four digs.
- Pugh recorded five kills and surpassed the 1,000-dig plateau with her sixth dig of a 13-dig effort. She also recorded an assist, an ace, and a block assist.
Griffin Highlights vs. Rutgers-Newark
- Gwynedd Mercy University got off to a great start against Rutgers-Newark as Gaston and Etter served them out to a 9-2 advantage. Down to the wire, the set ended with a Gaston-Pugh connection (25-24) and a Scarlet Raider attack error (26-24).
- The Red and Gold carried the momentum into the second set, where an afternoon-best .261 (18K-6E-46TA) hitting percentage kept the Griffins ahead comfortably in a 25-15 end.
- Following a 25-18 third-set loss, sophomore pin hitter Annalise Kuppel (Estell Manor, N.J.) served Gwynedd Mercy University to a 15-9 perch with nine consecutive points. The separation was enough to carry the Griffins to a 25-17 win and the 3-1 match-victory.
- Pugh was one of three Griffins in double-digit kills as she recorded 15 successful attacks. She also recorded two assists, two aces, and a team-high 19 digs.
- Etter also finished with 15 kills. She supported hers with an assist, a block assist, and 11 digs.
- Gaston was active with six kills, 42 assists, two aces, a block assist, and eight digs.
- Kuppel was the third Griffin with double-digit kills as she scored 11 strikes in addition to three assists, an ace, a block assist, and 13 digs.
Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Thursday, October 16, when they visit Widener University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
