Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/8/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-10, 0-1 AEC) played their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) opponent of the 2024-25 season as the team welcomed Marywood University (10-7, 1-1 AEC) to the Griffin Complex for a Wednesday night showdown. Both teams exchanged blows in the first 30 minutes of play with the game knotted at 43 going into the fourth quarter. The Griffins would be outscored by nine in the fourth (20-11) and fall to Marywood 63-54 suffering their first conference loss of the season. Both freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) and junior forward captain Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) secured a team-high 13 points in the contest. The former tallied a rebound, three assists, one block, and one steal while the latter contributed with five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Red and Gold offensively struggled to find their groove all game as the team shot 20-of-62 (32%) from the field and only 5-of-24 (21%) from beyond the arc.
- Gwynedd Mercy was forced into 17 turnovers allowing the Pacers to secure 15 points off of turnovers.
- Leading scorer for Gwynedd Mercy, senior forward captain Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) struggled in the contest as she was constantly swarmed whenever the senior would touch the ball. She finished with a season-low of two points but contributed with a team-high of nine rebounds. Eagan also recorded two assists and two steals.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Saturday, January 11 when the team takes on Immaculata University for another AEC match up with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
