Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/3/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-9) kicked off the 2025 portion of their schedule with a matchup against Nazareth University (7-3) for the second time in program history. The Griffins and Golden Flyers last faced off on December 28, 2006, when the Red and Gold took home a 70-60 victory. Early in the contest, Gwynedd Mercy caught fire all over the floor shooting 6-of-11 from the field (55%) and 3-of-5 (60%) from three. The Griffins took a 39-35 lead going into the half. Gwynedd Mercy could not keep the lead as Nazareth would go on to a 28-13 fourth-quarter advantage and secure a 78-62 victory. Senior forward captain Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) finished with a team-high 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy only recorded 26 points in the paint as the Golden Flyers recorded nine blocks throughout the contest forcing the Griffins to 29 three-point attempts in the game.
- Junior forward captain Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) finished with a team-high seven rebounds while recording 13 points, two steals, and two assists.
- Nazareth University's bench outscored Gwynedd Mercy 12-2 and recorded 40 points in the paint compared to the Griffins' 26.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Wednesday, January 8 when the team takes on Marywood University for their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) matchup of the season with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
