Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/22/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-12, 1-3 AEC) welcomed Atlantic East Conference (AEC) foe Centenary University (N.J.) (12-7, 1-3 AEC) where the Griffins looked to make it two straight wins in conference play. The Red and Gold came out of the tip taking an early 5-3 lead (7:16), but a strong second quarter from the Cyclones turned the momentum in favor of Centenary going into the half riding a 39-22 lead. Gwynedd Mercy would eventually fall 68-50 dropping their home record to 2-9 on the season. Senior captain forward Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and junior forward captain Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) were the only two members of the Griffins to finish with double-digit points. The former tallied ten points on 4-of-13 (31%) shooting, while the latter recorded a team-high 12 points going 5-of-11 (45%) from the field.
Griffin Highlights:
- Down by 17 coming out of halftime, Gwynedd Mercy showed fight as the team went on a 14-5 run to open the third quarter frame. Sophomore guard Alyssa Cresto (Newark, Del.) started out with a quick layup (9:35) and then rattled off a three-pointer (9:03) and a jumper (8:24) giving her seven quick points just minutes into the third quarter. Joining her in the run was freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) with five points and Eisenhart with a pair (2).
- The Griffins struggled to keep the Cyclones out of the paint as 34 of their 68 points were in the paint, including 12 in the first quarter.
- A big woe for the Red and Gold all game was their shooting as the team finished 20-of-71 (28%) from the field and just 5-of-25 (20%) from beyond the arc.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Saturday, January 25 when the team travels to Neumann University for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
