Arlington, Va. - (1/15/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-11, 1-2 AEC) riding a season-long seven-game losing skid traveled to Virginia to take on the defending Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Champions Marymount University (4-11, 1-2 AEC). The Red and Gold did not let their previous seven games deter the team and jumped out to an early 9-3 lead early in the first quarter (6:44). The Griffins would go on to win the first quarter by a margin of ten (17-7) leading to a 59-51 victory securing Gwynedd Mercy's first conference victory of the season. Freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) showcased her talents recording a season-high 38 minutes with a career-high 18 points (7-of-9, 78%) four rebounds, two assists, and career-highs in steals (4) and blocks (2).
Griffin Highlights:
- The Red and Gold's tremendous defense made the contest. The Red and Gold forced the Saints into 28 turnovers, and the Griffins recorded 19 steals. Senior guard captain Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) finished with a game and season-high five steals. Bell secured four of her own while junior forward captain Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.), sophomore guard Leah Harrington (Horsham, Pa.), and freshman guard Alexis Kanzinger (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) all recorded a pair (2) of steals.
- Gwynedd Mercy's bench outscored Marymount 19-15 with Harrington securing 13 of the 19 points. Harrington 2-of-4 (50%) from the field and an impressive 9-of-9 (100%) from the charity stripe.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Wednesday, January 22 when the team welcomes Centenary University (N.J.) to the Griffin Complex for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
