Stocklin and Christensen Pave The Way For Griffins First Win In 2024

Schuylkill Haven, Pa. - (9/7/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2) traveled to Penn State Schuylkill (0-3) where the Griffins looked to garner their first win of the 2024 season. Just 2:20 into the game junior defenseman Colin Stocklin (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored his first career goal for the Griffins and the team never looked back. Stocklin also secured the game's final goal as Gwynedd secured their first win of the season 6-1 over the Nittany Lions. Joining Stocklin with a multi-goal game was freshman midfielder Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) Christensen also scored his first collegiate goal in the first half (34:10) and his second shortly after. With the Griffins dominating the majority of play, the team set a new program record in shots finishing with 42.  

Griffins Highlights: 

  • Joining Christensen and Stocklin's offensive output was junior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) (20:36) and sophomore midfielder Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) (25:25) 
  • Senior forward Shaine Kirby (Newtown, Pa.) assisted on Clyde's goal, while junior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) assisted on O'Donnell's goal, and sophomore midfielder Sam Hanley (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had an assist on Stocklin's final goal. Hanley's assist was the first of his career and his first point in his collegiate stint.  
  • Gwynedd Mercy outshot Penn State Schuylkill 42-2 and had a 9-3 corner kick advantage.  
  • Junior goalkeeper Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) started the first half earning the win (1-2). Both freshman goalkeepers Fionn Berton (Bordentown, N.J.) and Cody Sell (Souderton, Pa.) both saw time in net in the second half.  

Gwynedd Mercy University continues its five-game road trip as the team travels to Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, September 11 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
