Griffin Offense Explodes in 10-0 Victory over Elmira College

Elmira, N.Y. - (9/7/2024) - Junior midfielder Emma Dodd (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored three times (14:58, 47:24, 56:25), fellow junior midfielder Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) (24:55, 43:22) and sophomore forward Leany Santana (Wilmington, Del.) (22:19, 34:06) both scored twice, while senior midfielder Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) (18:38), senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (44:59), and freshman forward Jillian McAleer (Stratford, N.J.) (46:14) tallied one each as Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) netted their highest goal-total since October 14, 2017 (W, 10-0 at Cedar Crest College) in today's 10-0 triumph at Elmira College. The Griffins out-shot the Eagles 35-2 and senior goalkeeper Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) (2-2) earned her second shutout win of the season.
   
Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University put 29 of their 35 shots on goal and four of their scores came off penalty corner restarts. The Griffins held a 15-5 advantage in penalty corners.
  • After Dodd's first-quarter score (1-0, 14:58), the Red and Gold separated with three scores in each of the next three frames.
  • Dodd scored on all three of her shots, while Reed totaled a team-high seven shots. Dodd's tallies were the first of her collegiate career.
  • Sophomore midfielder Lillie Uttenreither (Bel Air, Md.) assisted on back-to-back tallies; the found Filchner at 18:38 (2-0) and Santana at 22:19 (3-0). She also took two shots.
  • Sophomore forward Sarah Lindsay (Telford, Pa.) accomplished the same in the third quarter with back-to-back assists on scores by Avellino (7-0, 44:59) and McAleer (8-0, 46:14).  
 
Gwynedd Mercy University welcomes Albright College to campus on Wednesday, September 11, when they host the Lions for a 4:00 p.m. home opener.
