Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/3/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (0-2) hosted its first contest at the Athletic Complex this season taking on Misericordia University (1-1). The Red and Gold were unable to pick up their first victory of the season in front of the Griffin faithful as Gwynedd Mercy fell to the Cougars 4-0. The Griffins' best chance for a tally came late in the first half (43:20) when junior midfielder C.J. Clyde was awarded a free position shot 20 yards from the net. Clyde missed his shot just high of the net keeping Gwynedd Mercy scoreless.
- Clyde finished with a team-high two shots while senior defender Victor Cruz (New Castle, Del.) junior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.), freshman midfielder Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.), and sophomore midfielder Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) also finished with a shot apiece.
- Junior goalkeeper Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) was busy throughout the 90 minutes of play as Romano finished with a season and career-high eight saves in the loss (0-2).
- Romano received help from the Red and Gold's defense as the team finished with four defensive saves including, three from a corner kick and one from a deep lob from Misericordia.
- Gwynedd Mercy was outshot 29-6 including 19-2 in the second half.
- The Griffins only recorded two corner kick opportunities one in each half, while the Cougars registered eight corner kicks.
Gwynedd Mercy University travels to Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday, September 7 for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
