Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/28/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-8-1) opened their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule hosting the runner-up in 2023 Marymount University (5-3-3). The Griffins opened up the contest with excellent pace as graduate midfielder Mike Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) just missed wide right of the outstretch arms of the Saints goalie early in the first half (7:54). At 23:58, Marymount scored, and it was all Saints from there on out as the Red and Gold would drop their AEC opener 5-0. Freshman goalkeeper Fionn Berton (Bordentown, N.J.) made his first career conference start and finished with five saves in the loss. (0-4-1) 

Griffin Highlights:  

• With Gwynedd Mercy controlling the pace early in the first half, Marymount took control of the game with a 13-3 shot advantage in the first half and finished with a 20-7 shot advantage in the match. 
• Multiple Griffins recorded a shot (1) in the contest including senior defenseman Matt Edwards (Bensalem, Pa.), senior defender Victor Cruz (New Castle, Del.) junior defenseman Hagan Meyer (Warrington, Pa.) Fienman, sophomore defenseman Axel Mayren (Atlantic City, N.J.), senior forward Shaine Kirby (Newtown, Pa.), and sophomore midfielder Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.). 

Gwynedd Mercy University has a quick turnaround as the team hosts Moravian University on Monday, September 30 for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
