Griffins Stung By Yellow Jackets in 0-2 Loss

Gwynedd Valley, Pa.- (9/28/24)- The Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins (2-8) lost in a tight defensive matchup against the Randolph Macon College Yellow Jackets (6-3) in a rainy contest this afternoon. The Yellow Jackets controlled time of possession for the first three quarters of play, but the Griffins' defense anchored by Abby LePage (Cinnaminson, N.J.), Sofia Ferraro (Ambler, Pa.) and goalkeeper Kelly Weaver (Flemington, N.J.) were a stonewall on the field. The fourth quarter turned out to be the difference-maker, as both Randolph-Macon goals came in quick succession (52:39, 54:52).  The Griffins collected two penalty corners in this quarter as well, though they were unable to convert to score. 

Griffin Highlights 

  • Freshman goalie Kelly Weaver recorded 6 saves in the loss. 
  • Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) tallied the only shot in the matchup. 
  • The Griffins' showed noticeably cleaner play, with 30 fouls as opposed to the Yellow Jackets' 42. 

Gwynedd Mercy University continues its home stand by hosting will return to the Athletic Complex on Wednesday, October 2, when they host FDU-Florham in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
