Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/23/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-7-1) hosted McDaniel College (4-2-1) for a non-conference matchup. Both teams played magnificent defense all contest, however, the loan goal belonged to the Green Terror. A steady rainfall and gusty winds played an element in the goal as freshman goalkeeper Fionn Berton (Bordentown, N.J.) was going to corral a loose ball when it slipped through his gloves and found its way in the back of the net for a 1-0 final. Berton finished with four saves in the loss (0-3-1).  

Griffin Highlights:  

• Gwynedd Mercy did not record a corner opportunity until 37 seconds left in the contest (89:23) this was the Red and Gold's best opportunity as the team had back-to-back corner opportunities (89:50) where junior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) got the loan shot on net for the Griffins (89:44) but a fantastic save from McDaniel's keeper denied the Griffins latch ditch effort to even the score.  
• With players having difficulties keeping their footing throughout the contest, both teams registered a combined 18 shots, with the Griffins recording eight of them.  
• The contest was chippy as five yellow cards were handed out and 16 fouls throughout the game.  

Gwynedd Mercy University begins Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday, September 28 when the Red and Gold welcome Marymount University to the Athletic Complex for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
