Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/21/2024) - For just the second time since August 30th, 2024, Gwynedd Mercy University (2-5-1) played host at the Athletic Complex welcoming the University of Valley Forge (2-7). The Griffins came out fired up to be back in front of the Griffin faithful and had multiple scoring opportunities early including from junior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) (10:39) whose header hit the crossbar and another header just minutes later (13:26) by junior defenseman Hagan Meyer (Warrington, Pa.) that missed just high. The red and gold would eventually find the back of the net as sophomore midfielder Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) received a beautiful pass from senior defenseman Michael McGlinn (Philadelphia, Pa.) and buried his shot in the back of the net to give Gwynedd Mercy a 1-0 lead. Just 2:11 seconds later the Patriots tied it back up (1-1), but five minutes into the second half (50:09), Clyde scored and helped the Griffins to a 2-1 victory.
Griffin Highlights:
- O'Donnell had himself a career-day finishing with a career-high seven shots in the contest while also recording three points with a goal and an assist.
- Gwynedd Mercy outshot Valley Forge 36-12 including Meyer finished with career-highs in shots (7) and shots on goal (4).
- Junior goalkeeper Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) started all 90 minutes in net for the Griffins and finished with four saves in the win (2-4).
Gwynedd Mercy University hits the road as the team travels to FDU-Florham Monday, September 23 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
