Aston, Pa. (4/20/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (12-17, 5-4 AEC) traveled to Neumann University (13-23, 2-8 AEC) as the Red and Gold swept the Knights in their season series (W, 5-2, W, 4-1). However, the series sweep was not the highlight for the Griffins. In game two, senior pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) started on the circle and made history in the bottom of the third inning. With reaching 200 career strikeouts in her previous outing, Baumeister recorded her first strikeout in the bottom of the third putting her at 201 career strikeouts and now making her the all-time strikeout leader at Gwynedd Mercy University. Baumeister final stat line in the contest was (7IP, 1ER, 3BB, and 4K.) in the win (6-4).  

Griffin Highlights: 

Game One:  

• Gwynedd Mercy bats came to play in game one as the team finished with 13 hits in seven innings.  
• In the fourth inning, sophomore shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) singled to right center field allowing senior infielder Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) to score. (1-0). The very next batter, senior designated player Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) doubled to left center bringing home both Smith and Baumeister (3-0). 
• The Griffins would get their final runs in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from Scally and a run-batted-in (RBI) single from Baumeister (5-0).  
• Junior pitcher Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) made her ninth start in the contest going seven strong innings, giving up 5 hits, no earned runs, one walk, and striking out four in the win (4-5). 

• Gwynedd Mercy offense picked up right where it left off in game one as Scally hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the first inning bringing home senior utility player Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) and giving Gwynedd Mercy an early 1-0 lead.  
• In the third inning, freshman infielder Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) had her only hit of the game with an RBI single down the right field line (2-0).  
• Coming off the excitement of Baumeister becoming the all-time strikeout leader, the Red and Gold kept the good times rolling with Focht hitting home the strikeout leader in the top of the fourth (3-0).  
• Sophomore catcher Camyrn Kinney (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) brought home the final run for Gwynedd Mercy as Kinney hit a ball to the shortstop bringing home Smith.  

Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action tomorrow Sunday, April 21, for a doubleheader contest with Marymount University beginning at 1:00 p.m..
