Baumeister's 200th Strikeout Highlights Senior Day versus Ospreys

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/18/2024) - For the first time at Frank O. Genuardi Legends Softball Field, Gwynedd Mercy University (10-17) held Senior Day as they celebrated six stellar student-athletes in-between losses of 12-0 (5) and 5-0 to Stockton University. Seniors; Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.), Kaylee Colantano (Clinton, N.J.), Shylynn Cordero Softball Senior Day 2024(Allentown, Pa.), Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.), Ashley Haggerty (East Norriton, Pa.), and Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) were recognized during today's ceremony, which was immediately followed by a milestone pitching performance by the first-mentioned Griffin. Baumeister struck out five Osprey in the second game to record the 200th strikeout of her collegiate career and tie the program's all-time mark. Colantano threw out a ceremonial First Pitch and sophomore shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) recorded the only Red and Gold hit of the afternoon with a single to left field in the second inning of the game.

Griffin Highlights - Game 1
  • Gwynedd Mercy University loaded the bases in the second inning of game one; walks to Scally, Smith, and a one-out error at short filled the bags with Griffins. Unfortunately, a pair strikeouts brought the frame to a close.
  • The Griffins also had a runner in scoring position in the third and fifth.
  • Cordero and Scally drew two walks apiece.
  • Focht (2-4) threw the opening 4.1 innings. She struck out two. Haggerty pitched the final two outs and struck out one Osprey.
Griffin Highlights - Game 2
  • After Smith's single in the second inning, a wild pitch and a beaming of Focht put two aboard with two out. Unfortunately, a grounder to second rendered the opportunity null.
  • The Griffins also had runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, and six. In the third it was thanks to a Cordero walk and a wild pitch. In the fourth, an error and hit-by-pitch. And in the sixth, a walk and a ground out.
  • Cordero totaled two more walks. Baumeister also drew a free pass.
  • On the mound, Baumeister (5-4) recorded her five strikeouts while allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk. She is currently tied with Melissa Craven '03 for the program's all-time strikeouts record.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Saturday, April 20, when they visit Neumann University for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
