Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (4/13/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (0-11, 0-3 AEC) hosted Immaculata University (8-5, 2-1 AEC) as the Griffins continued to search for their first win of the 2023 season. The Red and Gold went down 5-0 early in the first frame and would not be able to make the comeback as the Mighty Macs defeated the Griffins 23-12. Senior attacker Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) finished with a team-high five goals and an assist to give her six points.
Griffin Highlights:
- Five different players for Gwynedd Mercy found the back of the net including Varilla and junior midfielder Alysia Collins (Royersford, Pa.) who finished with a season-high three goals. The other Griffins to find the back of the net included senior attacker Caroline Cleary (Chalfont, Pa.) (2), junior attacker Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.), and freshman midfielder Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.).
- Freshman goalkeepers Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and Victoria Sloan (Philadelphia, Pa.) both saw action in the net today for Gwynedd Mercy. Williams got the start for the Griffins and started 49:35 with two saves in the loss (0-3), while Sloan played 10:25 with one save.
- Both teams were excellent in their clear attempts as both the Mighty Macs and the Griffins were nine-of-nine in clear attempts.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, April 17, when they travel to Marywood University for a 5:00 p.m. Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest.
