Camden, N.J. - (3/26/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-11) traveled over the Delaware River to visit Rutgers-Camden for today's doubleheader. After allowing the Griffins to score two runs in their first at-bat of the afternoon, the Scarlet Raptors silenced the Red and Gold bats in 3-2 and 1-0 finals. A single from senior third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1-0) and a sacrifice fly from sophomore shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) (2-0) scored two Griffins in the first inning of game one. In the circle, freshman Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-3) allowed three unearned runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out six Scarlet Raptors. In game two, senior Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) (3-3) was equally impressive as she allowed one unearned run on one hit and struck out eight. Meanwhile, senior center fielder Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) recorded two (2-for-4) of the Griffins' four hits.

Griffin Highlights - Game One

• Cordero walked to lead off Gwynedd Mercy University's first at-bat of the twin bill. She was sacrificed to second by junior left fielder Ally McDaid (Maple Glen, Pa.), moved to third on a single from freshman second baseman Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.), and scored on Scally's single to right field; 1-0. Schwartz scored next on Smith's sacrifice fly; 2-0.
• The Griffins put runners in scoring position all the remaining innings, but the last. Unfortunately, they were not able to convert against the Rutgers-Camden staff.
• Cordero (1-for-2), McDaid (1-for-2), Schwartz (1-for-4), Scally (1-for-4), Smith (1-for-3), Baumeister (1-for-4), and Murphy (1-for-3) each recorded a hit in the contest.

Griffin Highlights - Game Two

• Cordero singled to lead off the first inning and bunt singled to advance McDaid to third base in the third inning. McDaid (1-for-2) led off the at-bat with a single through the middle.
• Smith (1-for-3) provided the fourth Griffin hit with lead off single in the fourth inning.
•  Schwartz, Baumeister, and senior designated player Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) each drew walks.

Gwynedd Mercy University resumes their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Tuesday, April 2, when they host Marymount University for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
