Little River, S.C. (3/14/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-6) played their final two games in a day down at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. In game one against Notre Dame of Maryland University (2-3) senior pitcher
Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) pitched her first complete game in her senior campaign going seven strong innings only giving up one earned run on seven hits, two walks, while striking out two (1-1) in the 3-1 victory. In game two against Mount Aloysius University (5-3), the Griffins were held to just two hits. Two of those hits came from senior utility player
Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) where she singled in the first and in the third. The red and gold would fall in game two 8-0.

Game One:
- In the bottom of the third inning sophomore shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) started a two-out rally with a single to the shortstop. The next batter, freshman middle infielder Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) singled to center left center and an error from the left fielder allowed Smith to score tying the score 1-1.
- The bottom of the fifth the Griffins offense came alive. A single from Cordero allowed senior infielder Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) to step up to the plate and single through the left side putting Cordero in scoring position. The next batter would be Smith and she would double to left field giving Gwynedd Mercy their first lead of the day (2-1). A sacrifice fly from Schwartz would bring home the final run of the contest.
Game Two:
- Senior pitcher Ashley Haggerty (East Norriton, Pa.) got the nod in game two where she went six innings in the loss (0-2). Haggerty's final stat line was four earned runs on 11 hits and three strikeouts. Senior pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) pitched the final inning giving up three walks and striking out one.
- Other than Cordero's two hits, the only other hit the red and gold could muster was a single from freshman catcher Izzy LaPerry (Beachwood, N.J.) in the third inning.
Gwynedd Mercy University will play its final game at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic when the team takes on Mississippi University for Women on Friday, March 15, for a 9:00 a.m. first pitch.
