Baumeister Pitches Sensational In Final Game At Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic

Little River, S.C. (3/15/2024) - For the first time in program history Gwynedd Mercy University (3-7) took on Mississippi University for Women (11-6). This was also the Red and Gold's final spring trip game down in South Carolina for the 2024 season. The Griffins were unable to bring any runs home with three hits and stranding eight runners on base. Senior pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) third start of the season was nothing short of sensational. Baumeister was perfect through six innings and a single in the bottom of the sixth with one out would break her perfect game. With these two teams needing more than 21 outs to decide this one, it was a single to left field in the bottom of the eight that would secure a win for the Owls with a final score of 1-0. Baumeister's final stat line was seven and one-third of an inning with a season-high eight strikeouts, one walk, three hits, and no earned runs.

Griffin Highlights:
  • Not only did Baumeister do it from the circle, but she also recorded the first hit for the Griffins with a single up the middle in the top of the third.
  • In the top of the fourth, sophomore shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) continued to have the hot bat with a single of her own bringing her batting average to .348 on the young season.
  • A few batters later, freshman middle infielder Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) registered the final hit for Gwynedd Mercy with a single to right field.

Gwynedd Mercy University will welcome Cairn University for the grand opening of Frank O. Genuardi Legends Softball Field for a doubleheader matchup. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20.
