Little River, S.C. – (3/13/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University (2-5) continued their stay at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a pair tight losses to Muhlenberg College (L, 0-3) and the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Boston (L, 0-1). Freshman second baseman Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) recorded two hits (2-for-3) against the Muhlenberg College, while senior pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) (1-1) struck out six Mules and held them to one earned run on six hits. Against UMass Boston, senior centerfielder Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) was the only Griffin to record multiple hits (2-for-3) and junior pitcher Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1-1) struck out four Beacons while allowing one run on seven hits and two walks.

• Gwynedd Mercy University has runners aboard in every inning, but the fourth and sixth.
• Junior left fielder Ally McDaid (Maple Glen, Pa.) reached scoring position in the third inning after a leadoff single and a Cordero sacrifice.
• In addition to Avery, Red and Gold hits came on a first-inning, one-out single through the left side from sophomore catcher Camryn Kinney (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) and a second-inning, one-out, bunt single from Cordero.

 
Griffin Highlights vs. UMass Boston

• Cordero led off the first inning with a single up the middle and led off the sixth inning with a single to left field; she reached third base in both situations, but failed to score.
• McDaid moved into scoring position in the fifth inning after pinch running for a Murphy leadoff walk.
• Senior third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded the other Gwynedd Mercy University hit (1-for-2) with a sixth-inning, two-out single to third base.
