Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/24/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2) welcomed Haverford College (2-0) to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball Field for the team's first double-header of the 2024 season. Unfortunately for the Griffins, it was not the outcome the team was hoping for as they dropped game one 6-2 and were shut out in game two 2-0. Gwynedd Mercy struggled offensively in both games and left four runners on base in both games one and two.
Griffin Highlights:
Game 1
- Freshman pitcher Patrick Talley (Collingswood, N.J.) made his first collegiate career start, going three and two-thirds of an inning allowing four earned runs on three hits and five walks. Talley did record his first strikeout in the second while recording his final strikeout of the day in the fourth. Talley recorded the loss in his outing (0-1).
- Junior utility player Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) started a rally in the sixth inning with a lead-off hit by pitch. Two batters later senior utility player Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) doubled down the right field line bringing home Root. Ebling would advance on a wild pitch allowing him to score after junior infielder Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) recorded a run batted in (RBI) with a ground out to second base.
Game 2
- Sophomore outfielder Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.) recorded two (2-3) of the four hits for Gwynedd Mercy in game two.
- Root got the nod for the start for the Griffins as Root's final stat line was 6 and one-third of an inning with six hits, one earned run, and two strikeouts in the loss (0-1).
- Sophomore pitcher Tommy Angelucci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) had his first appearance of the season as Angelucci pitched the top of the seventh. Angelucci was impressive with only facing three batters, two of those stuck out looking.
Gwynedd Mercy University travel on the road for the first time in 2024 when they travel to Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, February 27 for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
