Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (12/7/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-5) playing just yesterday (Friday, December 6) had a 19-hour turnaround as the team hosted Amherst College (7-1) for the first time in program history. The Mammoths' height and length hindered the Griffins all game as the Red and Gold scored a season-low 34 points in a 56-34 defeat. Sophomore guard Leah Harrington (Horsham, Pa.) was the only Griffin to score double-digit points as she went 3-of-5 (60%) from the field and finished with a team-high 11 points. Harrington also was perfect from three (3-of-3, 100%) with a rebound and a steal added to her stat sheet.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy's struggles came in the second and third quarters when the team only finished with a combined 12 points.
- Gwynedd Mercy could not find a solution in the half-court set against Amherst's length as the Red and Gold finished with a season-high 29 turnovers.
- Freshman forward Frannie Boyle (Newtown, Pa.) made the most of her six minutes of action she saw in the fourth quarter. Boyle recorded not only her first steal of her career (5:02), but minutes later (3:08) secured her first multi-steal game (2).
Gwynedd Mercy is back on the road Monday, December 9 when the Griffins travel to Penn State Harrisburg for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
