Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - (11/23/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-2) for the first time in the 2024-2025 season did not compete in the Griffin Complex and headed on the road to King's College (Pa.) (2-3) for a Saturday matinee showdown. Senior forward captain Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) started the scoring for the Red and Gold at 6:12 (3-2) hitting the first three-pointer of the contest. Eagan would play a major role in the contest including a game-high 17 points (5-of-11, 55%), eight rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Eagan's effort would help propel the Griffins to a narrow 59-56 victory over the Monarchs.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins' best quarter came in the second when the team took the quarter 14-8 and went into halftime up 26-18. The six-point advantage in the quarter would be enough to hold off King's College (Pa.) even with the Monarchs taking a 19-14 advantage in the third quarter.
- Freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) was the only other Gwynedd Mercy member to record double-digit points. Bell was 3-of-6 (50%) from the field, finishing the contest with ten points. Bell also recorded four rebounds, five assists, and a steal.
- The Griffins' active hands-on defense led to seven steals in the game rewarding the Red and Gold with 12 fast break points.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action Tuesday, November 26 when the Griffins travel to Swarthmore College for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
