Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (11/14/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2) played host to this year's annual Battle of 309 contest against Arcadia University (2-1). Last season at Arcadia University, the Griffins dropped the contest 82-56. The first 20 minutes were back and forth with the Knights only holding on to a two-point lead going into halftime. Unfortunately, a 22-12 third-quarter advantage for Arcadia would be the turning point in the contest as the Knights walked away with a 74-61 victory. Freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) finished with a career-high 17 points on an impressive 7-of-11 (77%) from the field. Along with Bell's 17 points, she tallied three rebounds, an assist, and three steals.
Griffin Highlights:
- Coming off Atlantic East Conference (AEC) player of the week, senior forward captain Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) continued to impress her senior season. Eagan finished with 13 points, a team-high nine rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
- Arcadia shot an impressive 14-of-37 (38%) from beyond the arc, while the Griffins only recorded four baskets from three-point land (4-of-16, 25%).
- Gwynedd Mercy's suffocating defense forced the Knights into 19 turnovers, ten being steals. This allowed the Red and Gold to record ten fast break points.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Saturday, November 16 when the Griffins take on Delaware Valley University for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
