Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/9/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-4-2, 1-1) for the first time in program history played host to a new member of the Atlantic East Conference, (AEC) Pratt Institute (3-7, 0-1). Early into the contest Gwynedd Mercy's hard work in the offensive zone was paid off as a foul from the Cannoneers in the box allowed sophomore midfielder, Bridget Cannon (Bensalem, Pa.) a penalty kick opportunity that she would not pass up and put the Griffins ahead early 1-0 (16:43). Just over ten minutes later, Pratt tied it up 1-1 (27:18), but the Red and Gold's senior forward captain Bethany Beinlich (Forksvile, Pa.) put the Griffins back in front once again with a goal of her own just over a minute later (28:41). The contest came to a stalemate in the second half, 2-2 (63:02), but Griffins seized their first conference victory of the season when freshman Paige Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) redirected a goalkeeper clear to junior forward Natalie Morris (Boyertown, Pa.). Morris headed a ball to herself to get past her defender and scored the game-winning goal (3-2) with just over 15 minutes remaining in the contest (74:57).
Griffin Highlights:
- Junior goalkeeper Madisson Ronn (Warrington, Pa.) made just her third start in net for the Red and Gold this season and finished with nine saves in the contest.
- Both teams finished with 21 shots in the contest as Morris finished with a team-high six shots, while Cannon and freshman defenseman Casey Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with four each.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Saturday, October 12 when the Griffins travel to Bryn Mawr College for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
