Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/9/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-11) concluded their non-conference schedule with this afternoon's METAvivor Game versus Penn State Harrisburg. The Nittany Lions got on the scoreboard early, 1-0 (4:37), and improved their position with a tallies at the beginning (2-0, 15:46), and end of the second quarter; 3-0 (28:29). Senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led the Griffins with four shots and freshman goalkeeper Kelly Weaver (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled seven saves in the loss (0-6). 

During the month of October – recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month – the Gwynedd Mercy University field hockey, women's volleyball, cheerleading, cross country, track and field, men's lacrosse, and women's lacrosse teams are partnering with METAvivor for a series of Breast Cancer Awareness Games, dubbed "Griffins Go Pink". METAvivor is dedicated to the specific fight of women and men living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Interested parties can learn more about the organization and how they can further support the cause by using the provided link.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University totaled 10 shots with six of them coming in the second quarter and the other four split between the third (2) and fourth (2) frames.
• The Griffins also had four of their five penalty corners in the second quarter. The other came in the fourth.
• Junior forward Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered three shots. The Red and Gold also got two shots from senior midfielder Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) and one from sophomore midfielder Taylor Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University takes a respite before engaging in Atlantic East Conference (AEC) competition has they host Neumann University for a 12:00 p.m. Senior Day contest on Saturday, October 19.
