wet and blustery afternoon, Gwynedd Mercy University (0-6) hosted Keystone College (4-2) for their first home game since the season opener on September 1. The Griffins gained a 2-1 edge with an early second-quarter tally from sophomore forward
Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) (15:24) and took the advantage to intermission before the Giants rallied with a pair of third-quarter goals (35:47, 39:45) and a fourth-quarter insurance score; 4-2 (52:27). Reed took a team-high eight shots and freshman goalkeeper
Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made three saves in the loss (0-5).
Griffin Highlights
- Gwynedd Mercy University evened the score, 1-1, with a timely through ball from freshman midfielder Hailey Crosby (Afton, N.Y.) that found the touch of junior midfielder Maddie Jeter (Bensalem, Pa.) at 13:12.
- The second Griffin goal came early in the second quarter with an impressive individual play from Reed; 2-1 (15:24).
- Gwynedd Mercy University held a 2-1 lead at halftime despite an 8-4 shot deficit and a 7-0 shortcoming on penalty corners.
- In the second half, the Griffins continued to put the ball on the cage and out shot the Giants 16-13 at game's end.
- In addition to Reed (8 shots) and Jeter (2), junior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (3) and Crosby (2) also took strikes at the Giants' goal.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their four-game home stand on Monday, September 25, when they host Cedar Crest College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
