Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/25/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-6) laid their demons to rest with this evening's contest against Cedar Crest College (1-7) as an early tally by junior midfielder Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) (7:36) and some late stalwart defense earned the Griffins and first-year Head Coach Alexa Ostoich their first wins of the season; 1-0. Filchner scored on the first Gwynedd Mercy University shot of the contest with her solid strike ricocheting off a Falcon defender to the back of the cage at 7:36. In goal, freshman Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) recorded two saves in the shutout victory (1-5).

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University led Cedar Crest College in shots, 9-3, and penalty corners, 10-6.
• The Griffin defense was outstanding on the insert with Williams denying Cedar Crest College twice (4:19, 51:18) and her teammates frustrating the Falcons' late penalty corner chances (51:02, 51:14, 51:29).
• Sophomore forward Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Griffins in shots with three.
• Filchner and freshman forward Hailey Crosby (Afton, N.Y.) took two shots apiece, while junior forward Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), and junior forward Ashley Berry (Philadelphia, Pa.) were responsible for the other two Red and Gold attempts.
