Media, Pa. (9/1/2023) - The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team opened their 2023 season with an outstanding 5-0 win at Penn State Brandywine. Five different Griffins found the back of the net including sophomore team captain Bethany Beinlich (28:29) (Forksville, Pa.), freshman forward Ksenia Semenovykh (88:22) (Warrington, Pa.), freshman midfielder Bridget Cannon (29:53) (Bensalem, Pa.), junior midfielder Caroline Weir (15:08) (Warminster, Pa.), and freshman defenseman Rebecca Gordon (44:57) (Sicklerville, N.J.).
Griffin Highlights:
- Semenovykh finished with a game and career-high nine shots, seven being on goal.
- The Griffins outshot the Nittany Lions 28 to 5 with 20 of the teams' shots occurring in the first half.
- Gwynedd Mercy also controlled the ball in Penn State Brandywine's zone most of the game with the Griffins leading the corner kick category 10-0.
- All three goalies for Gwynedd Mercy saw game action with sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.), getting the start followed by sophomore goalkeeper Madisson Ronn (Warrington, Pa.), and freshman goalkeeper Miranda Abrams (Philadelphia, Pa.) to close the game.
Gwynedd Mercy University has a quick turnaround as they travel to Delaware Valley University on Saturday, September 2, to take on the Aggies for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
