Ambler, Pa. - (4/19/2023) - Junior Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) scattered six hits and three walks over seven innings, while striking out three in her eighth win (8-4) and second shutout of the season. The victory earned Gwynedd Mercy University (16-10, 4-4) a 6-0 game-one win over Marywood University (17-11, 6-4). Prior to the start of the second contest, the Gwynedd Mercy University softball team recognized their Class of 2023; #2 Allison Ross (Philadelphia, Pa.), #17 Hannah McLaughlin (Stratford, N.J.), #20 Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), and #22 Katelyn Barker (Newtown Square, Pa.). Unfortunately, the Griffins could not complete the sweep as the Pacers won game two in five innings; 9-1.

Griffin Highlights

Game 1

• Gwynedd Mercy University got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning; junior second baseman Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) scored uneared after a reaching on a one-out bunt single and working her way around the bases with a steal of second base, a passed ball, and a Focht single to right center.
• The Griffins scored two more runs in the fourth inning thanks to bases-loaded at-bats from freshman shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) and Cordero. Smith singled in a run with a drive to left field, while Cordero knocked in the other tally with a fielder's choice to short.
• Two more Griffins scored in the fifth inning on a two-out double right field from sophomore right fielder Carly Maw (Bensalem, Pa.).
• The last Gwynedd Mercy University run scored in the sixth inning with one-out walk to Cordero, a single from Ross, and a Focht sacrifice fly.
• Cordero (2-for-3, 2R, RBI), Focht (2-for-3, R, 2RBI), junior designated player Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) (2-for-2, R), and Maw (2-for-3, R, 2RBI) recorded two hits apiece.

Game 2

• Gwynedd Mercy University's two hits came in the second and fifth innings. The latter scored the Griffins' lone run of the the affair in the bottom of the fifth inning.
• There, McLaughlin singled to short and was replaced by Smith on a fielder's choice before a Pacer error moved the runner into scoring position for a RBI fielder's choice from Focht.
• McLaughlin (1-for-1) was responsible for the other Griffin hit; she singled to left field with two out in the second inning.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Saturday, April 28, when they visit Cabrini University for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
