Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run-batted-in (RBI) in the opener, and he threw the first 7.1 innings of the second game; ND, 7.1 innings, 8H, 4ER, 3BB, 2K.
Griffin Highlights
Game 1
- Gwynedd Mercy University grabbed a two-run lead in their first at-bat; Martell took first base on a beanball and forced to second walk to senior catcher Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) before reaching third on a sacrifice bunt from freshman right fielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) and scoring on a sacrifice fly from graduate designated hiter/first baseman Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) (1-0). Price came home for the second score on a Root single through the left side.
- Martell was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run. He singled in the second and sixth innings. Root recorded his second hit of the game with a single to second in the fifth.
- Junior first baseman/pitcher Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was strong in relief. He held the Knights to two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out seven.
Game 2
- Neumann University owned a 3-0 lead before taking a 5-3 advantage with a run in the third inning, another in the fourth, and three in the sixth.
- Martell led off the third inning with a single to left field. He scored moments later with one-out sacrifice bunt from Junker, and a double to left from Collins.
- In the fourth inning, freshman designated hitter Dom Gerasimowicz (Pottstown, Pa.) ripped a two-out double down the left field line and scored on a single to right field from freshman left fielder Ryan Grissom (Downingtown, Pa.).
- The Griffins took a 5-3 lead with their three-run sixth inning; beanballs to Price and senior third baseman Noah Andress (Levittown, Pa.) were followed by a Gerasimowicz single through the right side, an error, and a Grissom double down the left field line.
- Martell (2-for-5), Gerasimowicz (2-for-4), and Grissom (2-for-3) each recorded two hits.
