Men's Lacrosse Dismisses Knights For Fourth AEC Win

Aston, Pa. - (4/15/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (6-7, 4-0) stayed perfect in league play and collected their fourth Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory of the season with today's 16-11 triumph at Neumann University (4-9, 0-3). There, junior attack Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) spirited a Griffin second-half effort with a four-point stretch that separated Gwynedd Mercy University from a 8-8 halftime stalemate to a 12-8 (5:04, 3QTR) perch. Eide (4 goals, 4 assists) and freshman attack Gunnar Seaman (Worcester, Pa.) (4 goals, 4 assists) recorded eight points apiece; the former also recovered a team-high six ground balls and caused a turnover.

Griffin Highlights
  • A highly-competitive first half saw Eide (2-1, 10:29 1QTR), sophomore attack Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.) (2-2, 9:39 1QTR), and a junior midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington,  N.J.) (3-3, 0:19 1QTR) keep the Griffins even in the first quarter. In the second quarter, a four-goal run brought the Griffins from a two goal deficit (5-3, 13:02 2QTR) to a two-goal advantage (7-5, 7:20). Unfortunately, Neumann University outscored Gwynedd Mercy University 3-1 en route to a 8-8 halftime stalemate.
  • In the second half, Eide found Kish (9-8, 14:01 3QTR), scored on a passes from Seaman (10-8, 8:46 3QTR) and Kish (11-8, 7:01 3QTR), before locating Seaman for a 12-8 (5:04, 3QTR) lead. The Griffins owned a three-goal edge (13-10, 2:02) at the end of the third quarter and a five-goal advantage at the game's conclusion.
  • Gwynedd Mercy University led Neumann University in shots (53-42) and was successful on half their extra-man opportunities (4-of-8, .500). They also were successful on 18-of-22 (.818) of their clear attempts and 10-of-30 (.300) face-off, while recovering 35 ground balls.
  • Seaman added a ground ball and a caused turnover to his eight points. Hughes finished with three goals and two ground balls. Kish provided three ground balls and a caused turnover in excess of his four points (1 goal, 3 assists). Carney scored twice and junior midfielder Jack Freeland (Riverton, N.J.) supplied two assists.
  • In goal, senior Chase McFeeley (Mullica Hill, N.J.) earned the win (4-5) a dozen (12) saves and two ground balls.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex on Wednesday, April 19, when they host Centenary University (NJ) for a 7:00 p.m. AEC contest.
