Joe Brooks earn his first win career with the Griffins. Senior infielder
Noah Andress (Levittown, Pa.) had a career day at the plate. In the third inning, Andress hit his first grand slam and just two innings later would hit a two-run shot putting the Griffins up 14-1. Andress had a career-high 9 runs-batted-in (RBI) and two home runs in a single game to give the Griffins a 19-5 victory.
Griffins Highlights:
- After three Griffins walked in the first inning, senior infielder Rob Bailey (Abington, Pa.) reached first on an error by the shortstop to drive in a run giving Gwynedd Mercy an early 1-0 lead.
- The Griffins scored 11 runs in the third thanks to RBI from Andress, sophomore outfielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.), freshman outfielder Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.), and senior infielder Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.).
- Root tippled to right center inright-centerhat drove in a run to extend the lead 15-1.
- Nodeland had a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in a run in the seventh inning.
- Graduate designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) made sure to bring late energy to the side of Gwynedd Mercy when he hit a three-run home run in the eighth-inning to put the Griffins up 19-1.
- Junior pitcher Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) earned the win (1-0) going four innings with two strikeouts, walking three and only allowing three hits.
Gwynedd Mercy University heads down to Florida next where they will take part in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Their first opponent will be Dominican University (III.) on Sunday, March 5 with a 9:45 A.M. scheduled first pitch.
