Auburndale, Pa. - (3/9/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-3) battled Clark University (3-2) in a back-and-forth contest, but fell just short when the Cougars walked it off in the tenth inning with a final score of 10-9. Freshman outfielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) had himself a day at the plate going 3-5 with three hits, three runs-batted-in (RBI). and worked a walk. Graduate pitcher Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) pitched a gem going five innings only allowing five hits, walking two, and striking out five. 

Griffin Highlights:

• Down 3-1 going into the sixth inning, the Griffins bat came alive starting with junior infielder Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) knocked in senior infielder Noah Andress (Levittown, Pa.) and cutting the deficit to two (3-1). 
• A passed ball brought home Collins and cut the lead down to one (3-2). 
• A few batters later Junker would bring home two with a two-RBI single to center field. Ebling and freshman outfielder Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.) put the Griffins on top 4-3.
• In the seventh inning, senior catcher Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) hit his first triple of the year and allowed Andress to score and tie things back up 5-5.
• Ebling hit a sacrifice fly to left field bringing home Price and putting Gwynedd Mercy back on top 6-5.
• Down three runs going into the ninth, the Griffins needed a little bit of magic. Graduate infielder Jack Jamison (Fort Washington, Pa.) started things off by taking one for the team after being hit by a pitch bringing home Andress (9-7). 
• The next batter Nodeland hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing the score to 9-8.
• Junker continued his huge day at the plate by tying things up with an RBI single (9-9)
• The Griffins did however fall in the tenth inning with the final score being 10-9. 
• Sophomore pitcher Zac Newsham-Quinn (Bristol, Pa.) earned the loss (0-1). 

Gwynedd Mercy takes on Marian University in a two-game set Friday, March 10, with game one's first pitch scheduled for 2:45 P.M. and game two for 5:45 P.M.
